About Us

logoDying Van Gogh Records is an independent boutique record label with national and international major distribution. DVG was established in 2008 by singer/songwriter Ed Hale (of the rock group Transcendence) – who owned the TMG Records label since 1998, and Transcendence bass player (and Ex Norwegian singer/songwriter) Roger Houdaille – who had also founded and owned his own label – Dippy Records – since the early 2000’s. Hale and Houdaille decided to start Dying Van Gogh as a combined effort to pool the talent and resources of both their labels together to form a bigger and more effective company.

Their objective was not only to gain more control over their own individual various musical projects, but also to discover other artists around the world who might not be getting the attention they deserve and help them get their music out to fans who just might be dying to discover it. DVG is a fledgling young company in the infancy of what will hopefully be a long life of finding and releasing the music of some brilliant and special musical artists. But the company is surviving and thriving on the passion of a small staff of employees and interns who are all dedicated to and enthusiastic about great music.

DVG currently has offices in New York City and Miami. Artists currently signed to the label are: Ex Norwegian, Ed Hale, Transcendence, Andy Pratt, DJ Kamran Aghaiepour, and Dreaming in Stereo. We are always looking for new talent and new people to join our team. Please email info@dyingvangogh.com for more information.

PURPOSE

The sole purpose of Dying Van Gogh Records is to discover, foster, and promote exceptional musical talent and release it to the world through the physical distribution of CDs and DVDs at retail store outlets and digitally through over two-hundred and fifty online music stores and music portals. At DVG our goal is to find and promote ridiculously brilliant musical talent that for whatever reason may slip through the cracks and be overlooked by the mainstream music industry and give them a chance to find their audience. Music is a sacred thing to music lovers. There is nothing more moving and inspiring and exciting than discovering your “new favorite artist.” Though sometimes as music lovers our ability to discover new artists can be limited by the short sightedness of a very small collection of boys in the backroom record companies that are more interested in real time profits than in long term history-making artistry. This has always been the case but the situation has gotten a lot better since the advent of the internet, indie music, and the independent record label. At DVG we decided to take a new approach to an already exciting and beneficial trend – independent record companies – and go one step further, taking the idea to its extreme. The idea? We don’t care about what an artist looks like, nor their age, nor how hip or cool they are, nor how many albums they’ve already sold or how many shows they’ve performed. We don’t care what genre or format they fit into, if the press is going to like them, or if radio is going to play them, or if all the kids on the block are or are not downloading their new single. What we do care about is that they are great at whatever music they are making. There have always been brilliant music artists out there in the world that for whatever reason just don’t get enough mainstream exposure. Some make it and then get tossed away as quickly as they were discovered, such as Aimee Mann, who is as brilliant today as she was twenty-five years ago. But most don’t ever get a chance to find their audience. Which is unfortunate for all of us. For all we know, our next “favorite new artist of all time” is alone writing and singing only to the walls of their bedroom, or is a middle-aged mom with a dayjob in middle America, or struggling in the streets of some inner-city barely able to make enough money to eat. The purpose of Dying Van Gogh Records is to find more of these artists and bring their music to the world so that music lovers can discover them. If their music is great, brilliant, special, innovative or unique, chances are there’s an audience out there for them. Our goal is to play a small role in helping to make that connection between artist and fan so that maybe one less Van Gogh dies undiscovered, unknown, and impoverished.
